How LA’s AAIMM Initiative Is Making Births Safer & Happier

The Los Angeles County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality (AAIMM) Prevention Initiative is a coalition of the Department of Public Health in partnership with First 5 LA and the LA County Department of Health Services, Department of Mental Health, community organizations, mental and health care providers, funders, and community members. We are united in one purpose: to address the unacceptably high rates of Black infant and maternal deaths countywide and ensure healthy and joyous births for Black families in LA County.

EmpowerThem Collective Introduces MotherBoard

EmpowerThem Collective has also launched the MotherBoard which is a county wide give me a title for this paragraph : advisory board which will be composed of 11 black mothers (currently pregnant or have given birth within the past 5 years) to advise and advocate on policy related to black maternal and infant health issues within LA County.

A Pioneering Advocacy and Leadership Opportunity for Black Mothers with EmpowerThem Collective

The AAIMM Policy and Advocacy Workgroup, in partnership with the EmpowerTHEM Collective and the Los Angeles County Departments of Public Health and Health Services, is seeking 11 dedicated Black mothers who are interested in participating in a paid leadership development and advocacy opportunity. The MotherBoard is a unique advisory board that will include Black mothers in Los Angeles County who will collaborate with community and systems leaders to address maternal and infant health disparities. Through their commitment and training, they will work towards creating a more equitable and supportive environment for Black mothers and babies in the community.
